| 0:15.0 | So, for this fifth and last talk on aspirations that are |
| 0:24.0 | support or an aspect of compassion and manifestation of compassion, |
| 0:31.0 | that I want to emphasize the possibility that aspiration can arise out of a |
| 0:40.0 | peacefulness, out of peace. |
| 0:44.0 | And that peace is a wonderful reference point for the motivations that are |
| 0:49.0 | connected to being compassionate. |
| 0:52.0 | It's not a few people for whom who confuse compassion with distress, |
| 0:59.0 | compassion with their own discomfort around being in the presence of suffering. |
| 1:06.0 | And they confuse the motivation to be compassionate, to act compassionately, |
| 1:11.0 | with the motivations that flow from that discomfort and that distress. |
| 1:19.0 | And some of that has to do a lot with our attachments to self, |
| 1:25.0 | at all kinds of attachments we might have. |
| 1:28.0 | And so, even some of the most important kind of ways and things we can do to be compassionate |
| 1:35.0 | and caring for others, we carry with us something which is not peaceful, |
| 1:42.0 | something which is stressful, something which there's attachment and clinging as part of it, |
| 1:47.0 | a force and assertiveness, a tension. |
| 1:54.0 | And it's possible to do, have the aspiration to desire the motivation to be compassionate, |
| 2:01.0 | to be peaceful, peaceful, to arise kind of an easy, light way, |
| 2:11.0 | and where there's not a lot of self attachment, self concern that's entangled with that, |
| 2:18.0 | where it's coming from not from any sense of being distressed or being challenged |
