Today we have a very Halloween themed slash inspired episode because we are talking about demons and the devil. And in Mormon lingo, I have rediscovered since preparing for this

episode, unclean spirits. That seems to be the chosen term for demons in Mormonism. I was actually

planning on doing a demons in general episode, doing some Mormon stuff, doing some Christian,

mainstream Christian stuff, kind of comparing and contrasting the two, talking about demons throughout history,

that type of thing. But as I started talking about the Mormon demon stuff, there is just so much

there to get into. And then I also opened up a submission box where I had people write in

stories about demons, their own thoughts and feelings and perspectives on demons.

And I got so many good submissions. So I decided to just keep this episode Mormon demon-focused.

Mormon demons, I guess not about demons who are Mormon, but Mormon's idea of demons. So I guess those are kind of the same

thing in a way. But if you did write in, I had a bunch of good submissions from people outside

of Mormonism about demon stuff, stories and things like that, some good Catholic stuff,

some good Pentecostal stuff. Don't worry, I read those and set those aside, and I'm excited

to put a pin in that and explore demons even further. So the Mormon doctrine around demons,

in a nutshell, is that there is a devil, aka Satan, that is the chosen name for the devil in

Mormonism, and Satan has a crew of fallen

angels that try to tempt and deceive humankind. And this is supported by modern Mormon

scripture, the doctrine and covenants, the book of Mormon, as well as modern day Mormon prophets

through quotes and things that they've taught and shared. Mormons believe that before we were all

born on earth, every person who will ever live on earth was living somewhere called the pre-earth

life as a spirit. And God was there. And God presented a plan

to all of these spirits where he said, I will send you down to earth. You will be tested.

You will forget you were ever here. You will be tested. Hopefully you will do the right thing, live the Mormon gospel,
