Good morning and thanks for joining me for Rise and Crime, your morning caffeine hit All About Crime. I'm Mama Jules, and it's a themed podcast today. All three stories have

criminal trials. Well, there's actually multiple trials within those three stories. And in three of the

specific trials, the defendants take the stand. First, we have a botched robbery that turns into

murder, and this is happening in Florida. Then a murder that starts in Wyoming and ends in Washington,

and it leaves one guilty and one innocent.

And finally, a listener request, an update to the Kristen Smart case.

All right, a little more than two years ago, on March 17th of 2024, 15-year-old

Kayla Ridcon Miller was out with friends, and the girls were kind of just being teenagers.

Kayla, along with friends, Emma and Luann, had caught a movie at the Coral Wood Theater in Cape Coral, Florida. After the movie

ended at around 10 p.m., the trio started walking the short distance from the theater to the

McDonald's that was just down the street.

The three were just, you know, being girls, they were laughing and enjoying their evening when they kind of got that sense that they were being followed by a car.

And they started to pay attention and it was a Nissan Pathfinder.
