Debbie Milman has been talking with designers and other creative types

about what they do, how they got to be who they are, and what they're thinking about.

On this podcast, Debbie Billman talks with photographer Brandon Stem about his ongoing project,

Humans of New York, and why Strangers open up to him.

I think it's because there is a validation that comes with somebody really taking an interest

in your story.

The portraits are arresting, an elderly couple looking frail

on a busy street, a young boy in an orange tie holding

an enormous skinny pig, a man in a cowboy hat tattoos covering every inch of his face.

There are stories that go along with the portraits of love lost,

of lives gone wrong, of dreams still being chased.

Brandon Stanton is the photojournalist behind these images.

His project began simply enough,

he would walk the streets of New York City

and capture portraits of strangers around him.

He called his Project Humans of New York and it became a wildly popular website, blog, and
