Welcome back to another episode of Five Minutes in Church history.

0:10.0

On this episode, I'm joined by a very special guest, Dr. Kevin DeYoung.

0:14.0

He is the pastor at Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, North Carolina.

0:20.0

He teaches systematic theology for Reformed Theological Seminary.

0:23.9

He is the author of so many books. His newest one is Daily Doctrine. It's a book of daily readings,

0:31.1

365 readings in systematic theology. I received one in the mail, and then my son promptly took it, so I'm in the

0:39.4

process of getting another one. Dr. DeYoung, it's great to have you on five minutes. Great to be here.

0:45.1

Well, I'm going to do you a favor. I'm going to pull you out of all your responsibilities, and I'm going to

0:48.7

ship you off to a deserted island. You can take five books with you. It's already got Bibles. It's already got the works of

0:55.6

Augustine, the works of Calvin, the works of Jonathan Edwards. So it's a theologically rich island,

1:01.5

but you can take five books with you. What would those books be? All right. Very hard, but very

1:07.0

fun. I'm thinking of multi-volume sets. Ah, that's the way to do it. Yeah, I for sure want a hymnal.

1:13.3

You didn't say there was a hymnal on there. So that's the most important thing. Great.

1:18.0

After a Bible. So I'll just, I'll take the Trinity hymnal. It's got the Westminster standards in the back.

1:25.1

It's got 700 hymns. So let's take that. I want to sing,

1:29.6

even if I'm by myself. So devotionally, I need the hymnal. Second, I got to think about my

1:36.8

upbringing, and I want to find a way to get the Heidelberg Catechism. Just the Heidelberg

1:42.6

Catechism is too small, so let's take Ersinus' commentary on the

1:49.0

Heidelberg Catechism. Her Sinus is the principal author of it. So that's going to get me a lot of

1:54.0

theology to chew on and is also going to get me the whole Catechism. So our sinuses commentary on the Heidelberg Catechism.

2:05.8

Third, so I've read it before, but let's just take the Lord of the Rings.

2:09.8

Let's take the Hobbit.
