Everybody should be in a band. If you can't find a band, the government should appoint one for you.

I've been saying this for years. It's in my book. It's a core belief that I hold.

Being in a band can get you out of your own self-obsessive thoughts

because you need to be in the moment. Being in a band connects you with other people without the

burden of conversation. You are perfectly in the moment. And the self, that self that could be such

a pain in the ass, that self recedes, at least kind of, and at least

for a while, and then you're part of something greater than yourself.

I think this is what some people get out of religion, this membership, and in something

higher, and I'm happy that they do.

Most major religions won't let you cover your favorite Weezer song, though, even if you ask nicely,

and probably not as part of the Sunday service.

based in Massachusetts. She's been making music mostly in bands since she was a teenager.

Chelsea created the podcast Dear Young Rocker, where Chelsea in her 30s reads letters to her teenage

self, the young rocker in the title.

She explains what teenage Chelsea is going through, stuff that contemporary Chelsea now understands

with the benefit of age and experience.
