Summary

On this episode of The Big Ben Show, Ben Domenech opens with the fallout from the Virginia Supreme Court’s decision on Democrats’ redistricting push, the national reaction from party leaders and media figures, and why the fight over maps became a revealing test of political overreach. Next, Adam Carolla joins the show to explain why California has become nearly impossible to rebuild, especially in Malibu and the Palisades. Adam and Ben discuss overregulation, the “safety first” mentality, the Coastal Commission, and whether California voters are ready to reject the politics that keep the state stuck. Later, Rachel Campos-Duffy joins Ben to discuss her new book, "All American Patriotism: Celebrating 250 Years of America’s Greatness,” the importance of family road trips, and why love of country should be passed down through stories, travel, and gratitude. 🎙️ Listen and SUBSCRIBE for more candid conversations on speech, culture, media power and politics. And leave us a review and let us know what you think of the show. I want to talk to you today about what has gone on in my home state of the Old Dominion over the past couple of days with a real shocker on Friday that came from the Virginia Supreme Court,

vindicating a lot of the skeptics, including former Attorney's General Jason Meares and Ken Cuccinelli,

0:46.8

who had argued from the beginning that Democrats obscene gerrymander of the Virginia Commonwealth

0:53.9

was something that had violated the Constitution

0:56.8

from its inception. The basis for this is that constitutionally, you are required to have an

1:03.6

intervening election between when there is a vote on causing a referendum like this and when that referendum essentially takes

1:12.5

place.

1:13.4

The problem is that in this case, the way that the legislature had done this is that they

1:18.7

had tried to sneak it in at the last minute.

1:22.1

They had waited until October 31st in order to pass this.

1:26.0

That was preceded by more than 40 days of voting and more than 40% of the early vote coming in for that election.

1:34.9

The Virginia Supreme Court was initially asked by plaintiffs to look into this earlier than the referendum even ran. But the argument from Democrats in the state,

1:48.8

including from the Attorney General, Jay Jones, was that this was not something that they were

1:53.7

allowed to do, that the referendum was the process of the law being put into place, and that they

1:59.4

could only review it after the fact.

2:01.7

Politically, this was designed to send the signal that if this referendum passes, we think
