Hi from CNN, I'm Josh and Chana with the Five Things You Need to Know for Monday, November 11th.

The Senate has advanced a deal that may end the government shutdown.

Last night, a group of eight Democrat senators broke ranks to reach a deal with Republicans.

The deal would fund the government through January 30th, fund SNAP benefits

through fiscal year 2026, and reverse President Donald Trump's federal layoffs, which

happened during the shutdown. Some Democrat leaders are fuming, though, because the deal

does not include the one thing they wanted out of the stale mate, a concrete extension of

Obamacare subsidies which will expire at the end

of the year.

The deal does mean Senate Republicans are committing to put the matter to a vote in December,

but listen to what Senator Bernie Sanders said last night about the idea.

Now, I know it's part of this resolution that the majority leader is going to say, well,

Democrats can create, put together

their own bill and it will come to the floor here in the Senate for a vote.

As everybody here knows, that is a totally meaningless gesture.

The final funding bill will soon be voted on in the Senate, which could either pass quickly or be

stalled by senators who want to drag out the process, before moving to the House, which

will present its own host of complications.

And while the funding stalemate might be coming to an end, the confusion over funding

SNAP benefits continues.

Over the weekend, a directive by the U.S. Department of Agriculture ordered states to

stop and, quote, immediately undo issuing full-food stamp benefits in November.
