Summary

Join Jim and Greg for this special 3 Martini Lunch as they look at some important stories that did not rise to martini status in recent weeks but deserve attention. Today, Jim looks at three different stories that leave him optimistic about young Americans. Greg also spotlights a story involving young people but devotes his other two choices to horrible actions by Democrats.

After Greg shares some thoughts about Memorial Day, they shift to their discussions for the day. Jim cheers data showing very positive results from schools banning cell phone use by students for all or part of the school day. And while usage goes down, we're seeing significant progress in other areas. Meanwhile, Greg sounds the alarm on new research showing what impact hours of screen time have on young brains.

Next, Jim applauds the low teen birth rate, which has plummeted over the past few decades. Greg focuses on the recent Supreme Court decision on racial gerrymandering to point out how Democrats claim to be defending norms and institutions, but want to abolish or radically alter institutions that don't do what they want them to do.

Finally, Jim takes us inside his very positive experience with high school robotics competitions and the great lessons those students learn. Greg talks about a recent Justice Department report explaining just how much the Biden administration discriminated against pro-life Christians and other conservatives of faith.

Three martini's coming up.

So glad to have you with us for the Monday edition of the three martini lunch.

It's a special day for a number of reasons.

0:20.0

First and foremost, of course, it's

0:21.5

Memorial Day. And I do want to say a few words about that before we get on to our special

0:26.2

edition for the day. Today we observe Memorial Day. We, of course, honor everyone who has

0:31.8

served our nation honorably and those who are currently serving. But Memorial Day is set

0:36.6

aside to honor those who have died in service to our nation.

0:40.4

It is believed about 1.3 million Americans have given their lives for this nation since the start of the American Revolution.

0:47.9

And there are still many, many Americans alive today who remember one of the 405,000 people lost in World War II, more than 36,000

0:57.8

in Korea, more than 58,000 in Vietnam, more than 4,500 in Iraq, and more than 2300 in Afghanistan.

1:05.8

And we honor their families, their friends, and their fellow service members who continue to mourn their loss.

1:13.2

As I've mentioned a few times on this podcast, I also spend a lot of time interviewing veterans

1:17.4

through the American Veterans Center, and those conversations can be heard on the Veterans Chronicles

1:22.9

podcast. And in addition to being odd by the courage of these veterans in battle, I'm most often

1:29.8

moved by their reflections on their friends who did not come home, who gave everything for the

1:35.3

service member fighting to the left and to the right of them and for the freedoms we cherish.

1:40.0

Those heroes remain forever young, and we are forever grateful for their sacrifice.

1:47.6

And today we have a special edition of the podcast, as I mentioned.

1:51.1

Jim Garrity will be back from his trip tomorrow when we'll be back to our usual format.
