Welcome to our daily rosary meditation. Let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen. Let's call to mind all those we've promised to pray for.

Teresa in 2003. I had the great privilege of spending a week with Father Thomas Dubay, who was an expert on

Teresa Vavala and John of the Cross.

He wrote this fantastic book called Fire Within,

definitely worth reading.

The thing I remember from this week was that Father Dubay, based on

Teresa and John of the Cross, was convinced that every person on this planet was meant to experience God in contemplation in this life.

And the reason that most people didn't was that there was no one to tell them about it, no one to show them the path, and no

one to encourage them.

And that's why I'm so excited about this series of meditations on Treas of Avalon, John, and the Cross here at the beginning of of God wants to give us a direct experience of Him if we just persevere in the path that

these Saints have marked out for us. So I'm so excited to be doing these meditations.

Now, right now we're meditating on the most important theme of John and the Cross detachment.

Now does detachment mean we can't pursue or delight in the good things of this life because when you read the

Saints they say over and over that we have to be purified from worldly attachments, that we have to renounce worldly pleasures,

that we have to give up everything for God.

Even Jesus said, you cannot be my disciple unless you deny yourself.

So it might start to sound as though we're forbidden from taking delight in anything.

But that just isn't true.

Now I'm not saying that what Jesus said isn't true,

but we have to understand him correctly. It is true

that when we get attached to one thing in a disordered way we have to make sure
