The eyes of the world have been laser focused on Israel and the Middle East. Every day we see upsetting images that depict human

pain and suffering. And today on Insight for Living, Chuck Swindall reminds us that when Jesus Christ

was born, he didn't step into a world that was at peace

with itself.

We often sing the Carol Silent Night, but there was nothing calm and nothing bright about the world into which the Lord Jesus entered.

Even so, his arrival changed everything forever.

My Bible is open to Luke chapter two that is so familiar to all of us.

Our lips move when someone reads the story.

We've heard this story since we were little children

sitting in our family rooms as our moms and dads read the story to us.

Christmas was never complete in our home without the reading of Luke Chapter 2. It came about in those days, days of economic turmoil, days of

political intrigue, days of assassinations and volatile terrorist plots by the zealots of the Jews.

In those days, not a little sleepy town of Bethlehem, not when everything was calm and peaceful, but in those days

when all hell was breaking loose. On top of everything else, this Caesar Augustus says that there has to be another census and that means that you who live in Nazareth who find your heritage in Bethlehem need to make that 90-mile trek.

And in this particular case, this young couple found it necessary even though she was heavy with child to make that journey along that

north to south route down to the town of Bethlehem. All were proceeding to register for the him.

All were proceeding to register for the census, everyone, to his own city.

It's easy to read that and forget that that's a rather maddening setting.

Some people are going north to south. Some are going south to north. Some are

going east to west. Some west to east. Some are getting out of the land. Some are coming
