Over the centuries artists have endeavored to depict scenes from the first Christmas. Their attempts to reflect those sacred moments often fall short of reality. For instance, imagery from a quote, silent night doesn't fully represent the times.

The region was fraught with tension.

Much like the kingdoms and conflict we're witnessing right now.

Well today on Insight for Living, Chuck Wendall portrays the birth of Christ

relying on the New Testament record.

By doing so, we begin to see the splendor of that supernatural moment when God became man.

The birth of Jesus was an extraordinary event in human history.

God became a man without ceasing to be the one and only God, amazing thing.

Very few in Israel's well educated could see beyond those humble circumstances of

Jesus' birth to appreciate the immense implications.

Ironically, Israel's outcast and forgotten people were far more apt to recognize the truth.

The story of this advent is found in the Gospel by Luke,

his second chapter, verses 1 through 7. So if you have a Bible handy, please turn with me to Luke

chapter 2 and I'll begin reading at verse 1. Now in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that a

census be taken of all the inhabited earth. This was the first census taken while Quarinius was the governor of Syria, and all were

proceeding to register for the census, everyone, to his own city.

Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea,

to the city of David, is called Bethlehem because he was of the house and family of David in order to register along with Mary who was engaged to him and was with child. While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth. And she

gave birth to her firstborn son and she wrapped him in cloths

and laid him in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn. Now several years
