Alex Honnold, known for his awe-inspiring climbs, takes us behind the scenes of his latest Nat GEO series, Arctic Ascent. Discover the challenges and breathtaking moments of scaling the icy, unforgiving rock walls of the Arctic, some of the science projects they did along the way including a special NASA mission, and the measures they had to take protect themselves from the extreme cold and the polar bears! Alex also delves into his groundbreaking documentary, Free Solo, which captured his historic climb of El Capitan without ropes or safety gear. Hear firsthand about the physical and mental preparation required for such a monumental feat, how he dealt with some of the elements including ants, and the impact the film has had on his life and career. Alex also reveals how he got started climbing, some of the craziest experiences he’s had on rock faces involving everything from bird attacks to silver fish infestations, and why he prefers free climbing over traditional rock climbing with gear. He shares what’s left on his bucket list of climbs, and offers tips for anyone wanting to try free solo’ing or traditional climbing.
