identity, culture, misconceptions, and political power.

I'm Grace Para, and I'm Julie Sarsay.

If you listen to our first episode, then you'll know that Latinos, Chicanos, and Latinx

people have a long history in America, since before it was even called America.

So for this episode, we want to talk about the contributions of Latinx people during

the civil rights movement, moments in the fight for quality that are very often overlooked

and certainly not included in US history books.

We'll discuss how empowerment feels to learn that not only were we there, in the protest,

marches, and fight for freedom, but some of the key moments in the civil rights era

happened because of the leadership of Chicano and Latino leaders.

So what does that mean to us now?

And what can we learn from those fights and struggles we face today?

How can we take ownership in this era of civil rights?

And help us get into this and more, while we're speaking with one of the iconic leaders

of the 1968 East LA workouts, Muktesuma Esparsam.

We'll also be talking to 17-year-old activist Grace Dolan Sandrino, a young advocate for

the LGBTQ community who is doing some incredible work right now.
