The Trump administrations moved to downsize the federal government continues with potentially

thousands more terminations expected today.

6,000 IRS workers hired during the last months of the Biden administration could be fired today

in the middle of tax season.

That's according to a source familiar with the agency's plans.

They're described largely as auditors and support workers involved in compliance work.

Meanwhile, two sources say Secretary of Defense Pete Hex-Seth could move to fire more than a half a dozen generals and flag officers.

One of the sources says a more formal list of those who could be let go was recently shared

with Republican lawmakers, suggesting that the dismissals could be imminent.

The Senate has voted 51 to 49 to confirm Cash Patel as FBI director.

Republican Senator Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski joined Democrats

in voting against his confirmation. Senate Democrats have been voicing concerns about Patel

since he was nominated due to his loyalty to President Donald Trump and past comments about

pursuing those he views as political enemies. However, Republicans have defended

his nomination, saying that the moniker of, quote, enemies list is a, quote, mischaracterization.

In other political news, former Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell chose his 83rd birthday to
