Hello and welcome to Defenders. I'm glad you could join us today.

We closed out our session last time by saying that I have not said anything about the subject

of the Millennium. And this is simply because this is not a topic that I have studied at all,

and therefore I have no firm opinions about it. So what I thought I do is just share a few

thoughts with you about the subject of the millennium.

What I'm going to do is to lay out for you some alternative positions and arguments pro and con,

which are reviewed very nicely in Wayne Grudom's popular one-volume systematic theology, and then leave it up to you

to make up your own minds. The subject of the millennium is mentioned in Scripture in Revelation

chapter 20, verses 1 to 10. Let's read that passage together. Then I saw an angel coming down from

heaven, holding in his hand the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain. And he seized the dragon,

that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years and threw him into the pit,

and shut it and sealed it over him, that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were ended.

After that, he must be loosed for a little while.

Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom judgment was committed. Also,

I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony to Jesus and for the word of God,

and who had not worshipped the beast or its image, and had not received its mark on their

foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.

This is the first resurrection.

Blessed and holy is he who shares in the first resurrection. Over such, the second death has no power,
