When Dusty May isn't coaching basketball or recruiting basketball players, he is oftentimes watching basketball.

So before Friday night's game, talking about the special night it would be with Trey Burke being on hand to see his jersey lifted to the rafters to become the sixth honored jersey in Michigan men's basketball history.

I asked Dusty when he was roaming around, Rust in Louisiana,

or on the road with Louisiana Tech basketball as an assistant in the 2012 and 2013 seasons,

what he remembered about Trey Burke.

And he gave a pretty interesting answer.

I hate to say it, but I remember that group so well.

And obviously, Trey was the head of the snake, but there's just certain teams that you remember how connected they are

and how different guys stepped up in each game.

It just seemed like each night, maybe Stouskas or Trey or whoever, just there was a different guy each night.

But obviously, Trey Burke was a, you know, for them to have the team success to be the best point guard in the country to win national player of the year is a testament to his work,

but also so many those guys around him who are going to be here celebrating with him tonight.

And that 2013 team that went to the national championship game had the aforementioned Trey Burke,

Nick Stouskas, as Dusty alluded to, Tim Hardaway, Mitch McGarry, Jordan Morgan, Glenn Robinson,

so many guys who could take over a game or a stretch of games.

And you hear that from Dusty May, and don't you feel like that is what he is trying

and what he has through 19 games this season built with this team? Michigan against Ohio State

with Trey Burke and so many of his teammates, pretty much everybody who was not playing in a game

somewhere else in professional basketball, with all those teammates coming back

to celebrate Trey, all that they did for him, that he did for them.

Isn't it fitting that Michigan had the type of performance that they put out there against

Ohio State?
