This player's era championship has gotten plenty of notoriety, plenty of attention for a number of

reasons. You've got 18 of the best programs in college basketball, star studded, great brands,

a lot of high-level basketball in Las Vegas this week. But one of the unique aspects, trying to

determine a winner with 18 teams and only two set games before a third game assigned at the end of everything,

you got to get creative. Yeah, you can throw out their record and then head-to-head tiebreakers,

but the big aspect to analyze when you had a bunch of log jammed 2-0, 1-1-0, and 2 teams,

margin of victory or margin of defeat.

That was the unique storyline coming in just for the structure of the event.

Well, two days into this event in Las Vegas,

the margin of victory storyline has been the key aspect of the discussion around Michigan.

The Wolverines have won games by 40 over San Diego State and then on Tuesday night by 30

over an Auburn Tigers team that looks a lot different from the one that Michigan

encountered in the Sweet 16 last year, but the program that eliminated Michigan

in Dusty May's first season. Now, a two-game stretch of 30 or more point victories isn't necessarily

incredibly rare for Michigan. It happened last December in Coach May's first season at the helm,

Michigan bludgeoned Purdue, Fort Wayne, and then Western Kentucky around the holidays.

This was kind of an annual tradition back in the middle of the 2010s with John B-Line.

Michigan did it to Detroit Mercy and Alabama A&M in December of 2017, Central Arkansas, and Maryland Eastern Shore in December of 2016, and we can go on and on and on.

There have been other examples in the past.

But the last time that Michigan men's basketball rattled off consecutive victories by 30 or more points against a power duo, power conference opponents, March 8th and 10th of 1990.

Senior year Terry Mills and the Michigan Wolverines took down Wisconsin, 94, 64, and then Iowa

127 and 96, both those wins in Ann Arbor.
