It's an offseason of change for Michigan men's basketball, but as I discussed last week,

that phrase is redundant.

Offseasons will almost always include significant change in college basketball for any program,

no matter your circumstance.

And it's easy to be enamored by the new players, kind of like that new shiny toy type of a

mindset that a ball club can bring in. After all, it is the infatuation

of what could happen that tends to win out in the discussions when there are no games to be

played. Think about how many people have or will file NFL mock drafts before Thursday's

first election in Kansas City. The transaction has pulled close to the action in terms of discussion

points around many sports. So why wouldn't that become the norm in college basketball? It's so

easy to discuss the potential ceiling case of a new transfer or an incoming highly regarded

freshman, but you cannot forget about the pieces already in place.

And for Michigan men's basketball, the fascinating area to me going into next season will be

on the inside. Outside of Hunter Dickinson, the Wolverines did not have enough consistent

production from the interior. We talked to one of the key options there last week for next

season and hopefully beyond in Terris Reed Jr.

Cheddar found out early on in his true freshman season that this was going to be a process with his development.

He knew about the redshirt plan.

And, hey, in a program that prides itself on being four competitors only, it's not easy to be told that, yeah, you're going to sit out this season.

If you come to a program like Michigan, you want to play, you want to play right away.

Cheddar, though, embraced that opportunity and put in the work behind the scenes
