The writing is on the wall for the BBC today as Culture Secretary Nikki Morgan sets out the government's new stall on the license fee system, reform of the management structure,

an examination of the way the BBC has changed from an impartial broadcaster to a political movement.

This day has been long in coming, ladies and gentlemen, no longer is our national broadcaster

the trusted destination for news in this country, and I'm very sorry to have to say that.

Programs like Newsnight and Question Time have been beset by accusations

of bias. The organisation itself is laying off hundreds of journalists, shutting down TV shows

and cutting budgets in the desperate effort to look like money is being saved and targets are

being met. But the truth is that the BBC is a bloated, overfunded and more unpopular organisation

than it has ever been. A recent survey showed that

around 75% of people think the licence fee should be done away with. But instead, what does the BBC

do this year? They put it up by three quid. This morning, we'll speak to John Whittingdale,

former Secretary of State, as Nikki Morgan suggested the BBC could end up just like blockbuster
