Summary

Episode 2 of The Europeans, in which Dominic stays in a German haunted house. It’s been a dramatic week on the continent, with a convicted war criminal committing suicide in the middle of a courtroom in The Hague. Elsewhere, we talk to journalist Claire Sergent about whether French could really one day be the world’s most widely spoken language, and to European gay travel supremos A Couple Of Men about their hugely successful blog. This podcast contains no traces of Brexit at all, it’s a near-Christmas miracle! Please leave us a review if you enjoyed The Europeans, and help us to spread the word. https://europeanspodcast.com | https://twitter.com/EuropeansPod

Hello, Dominic.

0:24.3

I don't always say that.

This is the Europeans.

It's your favourite moderately serious, moderately fun podcast about Europe with me, Katie Lee, a journalist in Paris,

birthday.

And we stayed in Munich for a night and then we went to a little town called Regensburg, about an hour away.

0:50.3

And it was so nice. It's a kind of little student town.

0:53.3

And it's super Christmassy. There was a

0:55.4

Christmas market and we just had a lovely time and we met some great Europeans. We met a girl

1:01.2

on the train who shared a group sort of discount train ticket with us. Oh, that's so nice of her.

1:06.3

Yeah, well no, that wasn't the nicest thing she did. So got chatting and she said, oh, why are you here? And my friend said, oh, because it's my birthday. And she was like, no way, it's my birthday as well.

1:14.4

And we're having a party tonight. Do you want to come? So we went to a party in the student halls in

1:19.6

Regensburg and had a great time and met loads of really, really nice people. So shout out to you, Annika. Oh, also, my friend kissed a guy, Dominic.

1:28.6

Oh, yeah.

1:28.9

He was not only called Dominic, but he had a tattoo of the word Europe on his arm.

1:33.5

No.

1:34.4

Yeah, I want to take a picture, I forgot.

1:35.9

We should have interviewed him.
