0:12.6	I had a recording with a friend named Kyle Bailey for his podcast, which I'll put a link in

0:20.3	But I asked him if he wouldn't mind if I recorded it for our broadcast as well because I was going to be busy this week and wouldn't have time to do another recording.
0:27.4	And so in a sense, we did, I guess, two birds with one stone by both of us recording for this broadcast.
0:32.3	And so the setup's a little different. Obviously, he's going to be interviewing and asking me questions about my journey and out of Calvinism and some of the views that I hold to and a little bit on James White
0:41.4	in our debate there and the distinctions that we hold to. And so I hope that she'll enjoy this
0:45.6	interview. Today we're with Dr. Layton Flowers. He's the director of evangelism and apologetics
0:50.6	for Texas Baptist. And he's a theology professor, but he's most known for, I believe,
0:57.2	founding the website, Soteriology 101.com. He did a pretty popular debate with James White on
1:04.2	Romans Chapter 9, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and I've known Leighton for quite a few years now,
1:10.6	and so I'm just happy to have you on and
1:13.7	get to talk about this incredible subject that so many people are curious about.
1:20.0	Well, thanks, Kyle, for having me on. It's my pleasure to be here.
1:23.1	Absolutely. So I'm just going to kind of dive right in. I know one of the most interesting
1:27.4	aspects of your story is that you haven't always been known for debunking Calvinism. You actually were part of the Calvinist world for quite a while. So how did you first become a Calvinist? Well, I was raised in a pretty typical
1:45.1	Southern Baptist type church. I was always raised with kind of the understanding and belief that God
1:49.8	genuinely loves and desires for all to be saved. And the only reason anybody wouldn't be saved is because
1:55.1	they just simply chose to reject Christ. And I think that's probably the most basic way of people understand
2:02.6	salvation and sociology. It's definitely the most predominant view among both Eastern and Orthodox
2:08.5	theology. But there is and has been a string throughout Christian history of a belief that God is the one who ultimately makes that decision as to who will believe and who won't believe and follow him.
