I am president of Catholic Answers, and it is my pleasure to welcome you to this debate this evening between our own Trent Horn and our guest invader Sam Rocha, the topic, the resolution, I should say in front of our debater tonight is resolved. No one can be at the same time a good Catholic and a true socialist.

We're going to have tonight's an opportunity. Oh my gosh Trent. I should have begun with a prayer.

Okay, very good. So we're going to have an opportunity for opening statements from Trent and Sam and then rebuttals followed by second rebuttals.

And then we will go to closing statements. So let me begin by introducing and I'll review these rules as we're going along. Let me begin by introducing our debaters.

Here's a little bit about Trent Horn after his conversion to the Catholic faith. Trent earned a master's degree in theology, philosophy, and bioethics. He is a staff apologist here.

At Catholic answers, he specializes in teaching Catholics to persuasively and graciously engage those who disagree with them.

He models that approach each week on Catholic answers live are nationally syndicated radio program and on his own podcast, the council of Trent at SEL.

He has been invited to debate at UC Berkeley, UC Santa Barbara and Stanford. He is an adjunct professor of apologetics at Holy Apostles College.

He's written for the National Catholics bioethics quarterly. He is the author of nine books, including answering atheism, the case for Catholicism, and why we're Catholic are reasons for faith, hope, and love. Welcome Trent Horn.

Taking the negative that is that someone can be at the same time of good Catholic and a true socialist is our guest Sam Rocha from 2007 to 2010.

Sam completed a master's and a PhD in philosophy of education at the Ohio State University as eight gates fellow his dissertation education study and the person received the Loadman dissertation award in 2014.

Sam was appointed assistant professor of philosophy of education at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

In 2015 his book, Folk Phenomenology Education Study and the Human Person was published by Pickwick Publications and his essay, a tale of three cubicles won the Outstanding Contribution Award from Visual Arts Research.

Sam and his wife and have three children Thomas Gabriel and Sophia, they are parishioners at St. Mark's Catholic Church and I was very pleased to learn in our warm up conversation prior to going live here that Sam is originally from the great state of Texas.
