Summary

This week we have the opportunity to experience the 2nd and 3rd sets from the legendary Field Trip which took place on August 27th, 1972 in Veneta Oregon.
While I inadvertently omitted the opening Playin' In the Band from last week's Deadpod - it starts us off this week as we strap in and prepare for flight!
And what a ride this one is.. this is a show you should simply experience for yourself - music that is not only pleasurable but transformational. Don't overlook songs like 'Jack Straw' - you might be surprised there. The Bird Song has been called the greatest ever as has the Dark Star..
Personally I've always felt that the emotional catharsis that comes with 'Sing Me Back Home' to be moving and inspirational.
My words won't and can't do this performance justice. Savor this and see if you don't also feel it is music for the ages.

0:10.4

I'm speaking, of course, of the sets two and three of the Grateful Dead's primal performance at the old Renaissance

Fairground in Veneta, Oregon, August 27th, 1972.

0:21.6

Forty-th anniversary more or less of this performance in certainly one of the greatest and grateful dead history.

0:28.0

You'll have no problem enjoying yourself and getting lost in this performance.

0:33.4

I can tell you that.

0:34.5

We'll start off.

0:36.2

First of all, I apologize for not including this song last week.

0:39.2

It was a technical glitch and decided I'd just save it for this week,

0:42.4

and that's the opener of Set 2 which is

0:45.6

Playing in the band very very nicely played and sets a tone for what's to come

0:50.6

Garcia is on fire and the band really steps up this version as in a

0:55.8

incendiary version of playing in the band. It has to be the band has to slow down

1:00.6

after that for he's gone. They do a very soulful rendition, quite nice and certainly

1:08.1

worth one of the better versions, let's put it that way. It follows with Jack Straw, this one's quite good, listen closely,

1:14.8

it's a little bit different. Following that is one of the best bird songs ever done.

1:20.1

Quite simply, Garcia really, his music really, it just transcends, it's a transcendent

1:29.2

to piece of music.

1:30.2

It's a wonderful song, a bird song of, is always good, but this version is particularly

1:34.9

inspiring.
