Summary

This week's Deadpod is a bit unusual, as I decided to bring you an audience recording of a show that took place 33 years ago on the banks of the Mississippi River... at the Mississippi River Festival across the river from St. Louis in Edwardsville, Illinois. While I wasn't at this show, I've heard many reports from friends over the years that this was a complete *blast*, probably due, at least partially, to the fact that there was supposedly an absolute deluge of a storm going on especially in the second set.. As I listened to this first set I thought it was obvious that the band was having a good time... I also thought that the recording while not pristine, was worth listening to so I decided to feature it this week... I'll play set 2 next week unless enough of you object to the audience source (unfortunately that's all that is available of this one.. )

Mississippi River Festival, Edwardsville, IL (8/16/80) Alabama Getaway Promised Land They Love Each Other Me and My Uncle El Paso Althea Looks Like Rain Tennessee Jed Easy to Love You New Minglewood Blues Deal

Hello and welcome the Dead Pod for the week of August 16th 2013. This is a professor. I'm so glad you could pick us up this week.

0:06.7

This week I decided to do something a little bit different and that is I'm going to feature a show that's only recorded in audience by an audience format.

0:15.0

I usually shy away from those due to the sound quality.

0:19.0

There are some great, of course, lots of notably great audience tapes.

0:23.0

The one I'm going to play for you tonight, I think it's pretty darn good.

0:25.0

And it comes from a show that I really have had an itch to play for a long time.

0:29.0

I wasn't at this show, but some friends of mine were, and they said it was a blast especially in the second set when the weather really let loose.

0:37.0

This comes to us from the Mississippi River Festival in Edwardsville, Illinois back on August 16th, 1980. Right across from St. Louis,

0:46.0

we'll hear the first set this week and the second set next week. The second set was a real

0:51.0

tremendous downpour and storms, thunder and lightning going on and all that.

0:57.0

But the first set, I don't think the rain really let loose yet, but the band is really amped up. It starts out with Alabama

1:03.9

getaway into the promised land. They love each other. Me and my uncle into

1:07.5

Al Passo, a great althea into looks like rain. Tennessee Jed, easy to love you, new Minglewood Blues and a set closes with

1:15.0

deal. Jerry's had fine form throughout as the rest of the band is as well. They're really

1:19.7

amped up, they play in really well and I think you'll enjoy this despite the fact that it's an

1:23.2

audience tape I think the sound quality is worthwhile and certainly worth

1:26.7

revisiting so if you hadn't heard of this show I heard it was a great deal of fun

1:31.8

despite or perhaps because of the mud that happened

1:34.8

after the torrential downpours and set two. We'll hear those next we'll hear that

1:39.0

next week. So glad you could pick us up and thanks so much for those of you who were able to support the dead pod.

1:44.8

It's your support that keeps us on the air and I very much appreciate it.

1:48.0

I hope you're all doing really well.
