Summary

Summer keeps rollin' by... and I thought it just wouldn't be right if I didn't find a proper Shakedown Street to mark the season.. I think this one should fit the bill. Here is a high-energy show from 1988, originally a Rex Benefit show, that gives us plenty to like during these long days of Summer. This one comes from the Greek in Berkeley, where the boys always enjoyed playing. After the strong Shakedown opener, they move into a pretty good Walkin' Blues and a decent Friend of the Devil. The Queen Jane that follows however may have you scratching your head at the start - it doesn't sound like that itself at first :) . The Dire Wolf makes an appearance afterwards, a song I always enjoyed and never heard live often enough. Cassidy may provide the strongest jam of the 2nd part of the first set, as the song serves as the spot for some excellent interplay. A rare set-closing Bertha leaves everyone on their feet as the first set closes... We'll listen to set 2 on next week's Deadpod...

0:07.0	Seeing as we're really in the high summer period right now,
0:10.0	I decided I'd bring you a quintessential Summer Dead Show. This one comes to us from
0:15.4	July 15th, 1988, the Greek Theater in Berkeley, California, we're going to hear, this was
0:21.3	a Rex benefit and as was often the case with Rex benefits
0:24.5	the band seemed to pump out just a little bit harder work a little bit harder on
0:28.6	this one I think it's a great sound and set especially set one which we're going
0:32.3	to listen to this week.
0:33.2	We'll hear set two next week.
0:34.8	Starts out with Great Summertime Songs Shake Down Street and they do a really fine version of
0:39.2	this.
0:40.2	It jams into nice walking blues, friend of the devil.
0:43.1	Then they bring out a Queen Jane approximately,
0:45.8	but the first few bars, you won't recognize Queen Jane.
0:48.6	It doesn't sound like the usual intro to that song.
0:51.8	It's quite well done. After that, Direwolf and the band then moves into a great
0:55.0	quite well done after that dire wolf and Brent comes out with never trust a woman
0:57.2	the band then moves into a great Cassidy they really do some fine jamming
1:01.3	and take the song way out there.
1:03.0	And then it closed with a first set anomaly,
