Summary

Ah how I love the month of May! Spring has come late this year, but I still find this month to be the most delightful... and I can never help but feature one of the Grateful Dead's classic performances from this month back in 1977. Clearly one of the greatest periods in their live performance history, while this month is well-known and well-liked I still can't resist pulling out one of these classic shows to feature this week. I can't begin to say what particular performance was the best during this exceptional period, but the show I've chosen this time is no slouch. This week we'll listen to set 1 - which in my mind features one of the all time best Peggy O's you'll hear, as well as a tremendous performance by Garcia on the set closing, Music Never Stopped.. It needs no more superlatives the music will speak for itself, let it lighten your heart like the song of a spring bird...

0:04.3	This is a professor, I'm so glad you could pick us up this week.
0:07.2	Being as it's early May, I'm always inclined to feature a performance from one of the high water marks in the band's history and that's the first week in May 1977.
0:19.0	I can't let this one pass by without featuring one of these classic performances this week.
0:24.9	This week we're going to hear the first set from Boston Garden, Boston Massachusetts.
0:29.8	May the 7th, 1977, it was a Saturday night, it was one of this, it was one in a string of
0:35.9	incredible grateful dead live performances. This one, it's impossible for me to rank better or worse than any of the others that occurred during the first couple weeks of May 1977, but clearly the band was on fire.
0:51.0	This set starts. We're going to hear the first set this week and the second set next week.
0:55.0	This one starts with Bertha Cassidy, D.L. Jackstraw, a fabulous Peggy L.
1:00.0	It could very well be one of the top five ever played, new Minglewood Blues, Mississippi
1:05.2	Half Step Uptown Tootlew, into Big River, Tennessee Jed, and then Jerry just burns it up on a fabulous
1:11.6	music never stopped.
1:14.5	There's not enough superlatives to describe the performance of the band
1:18.1	at this particular venue and date,
1:21.2	and the music will speak for itself. I'm so glad you could listen this
1:24.4	week. I know this is not a rare performance. Probably have heard it before but
1:29.8	it's like fine China every once in a while you get it out and you dust it off and you use it.
1:33.9	And this is certainly some of the finest grateful dead life material we're lucky enough to have.
