Hello and welcome to Dead Pod for the week of February 24th 2017.

This is a professor, so glad you could pick us up this week.

This week we're going to bring in the second set from the Great Dead's Marty Gras Show performance.

February 23rd, 1993 at the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum Arena in

Oakland, California. Of course this will start out with the Marty-Gra parade.

Iko Iko is the traditional Mardi Gras song at the dead play during the parade and

that's what we'll start with this evening. A little slower maybe than usual, but I know that 93 is not everybody's cup of tea.

This is kind of an interesting set.

After I go, they go into Corina, a song that I've been told I've probably never before featured on the DeadPods so here it is hope you enjoy it.

Lazy River Road follows a rather slow number for the spot in the set but Jerry does a nice job on it. Playing in the band follows that and it's where

this really picks up. Despite some failures, there's some errors in this plane in the band not unusual for 93 again at one point the jam almost stops

It's still an interesting listen and it goes into a wonderful drums that is I suppose highlighted by the fact that

we have Graham Wiggins playing the didgeridoo in this drums a little bit low

in the mix but you can still hear it is kind of interesting and adds unusual quality to it.

Space follows. This is the first time that Ornette Coleman comes out on stage,

the famous jazz saxophonist who plays with them on the remainder of the

set.

That goes into a very spacey other one that I think if you're a fan of jazz or improvisational music you'll enjoy,

that goes into a sweet still blue and then follows with a really nice version of

turn on your love light. I think Ornet adds a interesting quality to this

one and I think we're steps it up. So it's an interesting love light to close set

to. They come back with a, I think, a heartfelt broke down palace as an encore that I hope you enjoy.
