Summary

We close out October.. and welcome Halloween :) with a great second set from October 21st, 1971 in Chicago. While this may be Keith Godchaux's second night of his tenure with the band, he sure doesn't sound tentative here - especially on his first 'Dark Star'! This one is made even more unusual when the band goes into 'Sittin' On Top of the World' then back into the Star.. (the first Sittin' since 11/5/70).The 'Brown Eyed Women' is only the 3rd time they've played it, and this is the second time for 'Ramble on Rose'.. The band is clearly stretching out and trying those new tunes that will come to perfection in the great shows of 1972.

An unusual 'St.Stephen' leads into 'Johnny B.Goode' as a double encore - they'd only play Stephen twice more in '71 before putting it on the shelf until its return in 1976.

0:09.8	at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago, Illinois,

0:16.0	Interesting period for the band.
0:17.0	Of course, this is only the second night that Keith Gacchuck sat in with the band,
0:21.2	began his tenure the night before and they're still breaking out and kind of
0:26.0	wood shedding some new tunes. They start out with Casey Jones, me and my uncle
0:29.8	follows and a great dark star Keith really shines on this one.
0:33.2	Into, an unusual into here, sitting on top of the world.
0:37.3	They only played this, they hadn't played it since 1970s,
0:41.0	so it's been a while since they broke this one out.
0:43.0	Dark Star follows a little bit of a reprise, so to speak.
0:46.0	Then me and Bobby McGee.
0:48.0	Brown-eyed women, and this is only the third time they'd played this,
0:51.0	even though it made its appearance its debut back in August.
0:55.0	Ramble on Rose Follows, and this is the second time they'd debuted this one the night before.
0:59.0	Sugar Magnolia, and then an unusual double encore St Stephen into Johnny Be Good closes out the show.
1:08.2	So unusual but this is a great show to listen to how the band is changing.
