The one-time CEO of the failed crypto exchange FTX remains behind bars in the Bahamas tonight

held without bail.

His company suddenly collapsed last month, then filed for bankruptcy.

This afternoon, the Justice Department charged the 30-year-old with eight criminal counts,

including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering, and campaign finance violations.

The statement was that the government was not able to make a deal with the financial frauds

in American history.

Bankman Freed and his co-conspirator stole billions of dollars from FTX customers.

He used that money for his personal benefit, including to make personal investments and

to cover expenses and debts of his hedge fund.
