0:16.9	finish their 56th book. Today and tomorrow Paul is writing letters to the
0:21.6	young new leaders of relatively young churches.
0:24.0	One of the things that's interesting to notice is which information he shares with both leaders
0:28.0	and what is specific to just one leader.
0:31.0	That can help us as we try to learn more about the context of each church's problems
0:35.7	and or which instructions and counsel are universal to all churches. Timothy is one of the leaders
0:41.5	at the church in Ephesus which Paul planted.
0:44.0	Ephesus is the town where they worshipped so many false gods, specifically the goddess Artemis,
0:49.0	that the Silversmith Union started a riot over the gospel.
0:52.0	The Ephesians are so steeped in their culture of pagan
0:54.8	worship that Timothy has a real battle on his hands when it comes to good doctrine and orderly practice.

1:03.0	bookended by his desire for them to have good doctrine.
1:05.9	They're proud and untechable and to make matters worse,
1:09.0	they want to be teachers and leaders.
1:11.2	But good leaders are first and foremost good followers.
1:15.1	You can imagine how intimidating this scenario could be for Timothy.
1:18.4	He's the new guy in town and he's younger than most of the church members
1:21.8	and here Paul is telling him to rebuke the locals who want to be leaders but
1:25.2	who aren't even obeying the moral laws God laid out and who don't want to listen.
