0:00.0	Hey Bible readers, I'm Tara Lee Cobble and I'm your host for the Bible Recap.
0:07.0	Today we recounted the story of the Paralytic man whose friends carried him to Jesus for healing.
0:17.3	We first read this story in Luke 5 and Mark 2.
0:20.3	Luke's and Mark's accounts of the people's response are consistent with each other, but they seem to vary from what we read from Matthew today.
0:26.5	Luke said, Amazement sees them all and they glorified God and were filled with awe.
0:31.5	And Mark said, they were all amazed and
0:34.1	glorified God. But today Matthew says something that seems to contradict that. He
0:38.8	says when the crowd saw it they were, and they glorified God.
0:43.2	So which is it?
0:44.2	Were they amazed or were they afraid?
0:45.7	Yes, there's no contradiction in these accounts, and here's why.
0:49.4	If you are with us for the Old Testament, this will be a bit of a refresher from way back on day 36.
0:54.7	When scripture tells God's kids to fear him, it isn't about terror.
0:59.0	Terror makes you run from something.
1:01.4	That's contradictory to God's entire objective of drawing near to his people.
1:05.1	The kind of fear scripture describes when it talks about fearing God actually conveys reverence and awe.
1:11.5	It's joy adjacent. It has the effect of drawing us to God, not away from
1:16.3	him. It's the way we feel about the Grand Canyon. We take long trips to get to it,
1:21.1	stand on the edge of it with our eyes and mouths open wide, taking it all in,
1:25.2	while simultaneously being fully aware that it has the power to kill us.
1:28.9	This is awe and delight and respect. This is the kind of fear we're supposed to have toward God.
1:34.8	Many of us will have to reframe how we think of the phrase the fear of the Lord.
