0:13.3	The major profit Daniel lived through some of the most well-known Old Testament stories
0:17.6	and wrote some of the most perplexing Old Testament prophecies.
0:21.7	Before we talk about his book, let's talk about him as a person.
0:25.6	Daniel's life and ministry span the entire 70-year period of Babylonian captivity, and he
0:30.8	was one of the people deported.
0:32.7	He handled his circumstance as well though, really well.
0:35.8	He was a man of prayer, faith, courage, and integrity, and Ezekiel, another major profit
0:40.9	who lived during the same time period, had only good things to say about him.
0:45.8	As for his book, the first half is filled with the stories we know and love, and it's
0:50.3	referred to as hope literature.
0:52.9	The back half of the book is filled with apocalyptic prophecies, so this is sometimes referred
0:57.4	to as the apocalypse of the Old Testament.
1:00.3	What does that word mean anyway?
1:02.3	The Greek word apocalypsis is where we get our English word revelation, so the book of
1:07.5	revelation in the New Testament is actually named apocalypse.
1:12.0	We associate that word with destruction and war, but its original meaning is quite different.
1:16.7	It means to reveal or to unveil things previously unknown, hence revelation.
1:22.6	And that's exactly what Daniel is doing in these apocalyptic prophecies.
1:26.4	He reveals to us what God has revealed to him about God's plan for the future.
1:30.8	A lot of what God reveals to him is revealed in dreams and visions.
