0:07.0	Today we have another flashback to a previous king. In fact, much of the rest of
0:17.6	Jeremiah will take us back and forth in the timeline, so try to hold the order loosely.
0:21.9	I know that can be chronologically frustrating,
0:24.0	but the commentaries assure me that all of this is actually intentional.
0:28.0	For instance, the last thing we read about yesterday was Judah's unfaithfulness,
0:32.0	and today we open with a story about the
0:34.0	the Juda's unfaithfulness, and today we opened with a story about the strict
0:34.7	obedience of the Rehibites.
0:36.7	Commentators think God really wanted to highlight the contrast between the two,
0:40.7	so he had Baruch put the story side by side.
0:43.2	If you don't recognize the name Rehibites, don't worry, we haven't met them before.
0:47.4	Technically, we've met their ancestors, though.
0:49.7	They're descendants of the Kenites.
0:51.7	They're all nomads and even though they're not technically part of the Israelites,
0:55.3	they've lived alongside the Israelites for a long time and some of them seem to be
0:59.6	followers of Yahwe. God tells Jeremiah to invite them to the temple and offer them wine, but they all
1:05.4	refuse because a long time ago one of their ancestors commanded that their family limit
1:10.0	their possessions and avoid alcohol altogether.
1:13.0	And they'd been honoring this command for over 200 years.
1:16.4	They have a heritage of obedience that puts Israel's to shame.
1:20.8	God tells Jeremiah to point this out to both groups of people.
