0:07.0	Jeremiah is in prison when we open today's reading.
0:15.4	King Zadakaya, the last king of Judah, didn't like some of Jeremiah's prophecies,
0:20.1	so he's punishing him.
0:21.6	This feels completely irrational to me.
0:24.1	Imprisoning the Prophet doesn't stop the prophecy from coming true. It's not like
0:28.2	Jeremiah was saying he was going to personally overthrow Jerusalem. Anyway, while Jeremiah is there, God gives him a
0:35.4	heads up to his cousin is going to try to sell him some land. Then just like that,
0:39.6	his cousin shows up with a deed and Jeremiah follows through.
0:43.3	What a boss move.
0:45.2	Imagine buying real estate while you're in cell block A.
0:48.5	The fact that Jeremiah had access to this kind of money
0:51.2	while he was in prison seems to indicate that he was pretty wealthy.
0:55.3	The reason that is noteworthy is because he's been coming down pretty hard on the rich
0:59.7	in his prophecies.
1:01.1	So is he a hypocrite?
1:02.1	No. His problem with the rich isn't their bank accounts. Being
1:06.4	wealthy isn't a sin. The problem is that they're oppressing people in order to get and stay rich.
1:13.0	Jeremiah buys the field and tells the scribe Baruch to put the paperwork in his safe deposit
1:18.4	face because he knows it's going to be 70 years before they're needed.
1:22.0	Jeremiah's boldness indicates that he really believes God is going to bring the people back to the land to live on it.
1:28.0	This wasn't a financial investment, this was an act of faith.
