We're joined right now by Fernando Vargas Jr. Fernando, my man, listen, I've got to say, first of all, while you are your own man, and we'll get into your story in a minute,

I want you to know that your pop is one of my, and I know you're your own guy, and you're probably heard all time, but I got to say, your dad is one of my all-time favorite fighters. He used to come on this show, probably when you were a baby, maybe even before, and my man was hilarious. dude, he was all swag. He was a warrior. He was unbelievable.

Before we talk about your career, I got to know.

What was it like growing up as his son?

And then what do you think when you watch films of his old fights?

I think it's kind of hard to fill those shoes.

You know, my dad is the ultimate warrior.

Like you said, he had charisma, personality.

You didn't know if he was going to fight in the wayans and um i just i know that this is what the boxing world needs and this is what the fight game needs now a new fresh you know throwback fighter and uh i'm just that all right so what was he like as a fight dad because man my man was a warrior dude he was a warrior and by the way i grew up in the eight one eight so i was not far from the 805. Oh, okay, okay, cool. I'm 818.

I was Calabasasas.

I went to UC Santa Barbara. I know the area, and I know your dad was 805 for life. What was he like as a fight dad? Man, it was a crazy experience being a kid and seeing just, you know, the stardom. Without social media, you know, without, you know, all the Instagram and all this different stuff that we got now.

And it's just like, my dad was a fighter who captured people, whether you were Mexican or regardless of your ethnicity, you came to see Vargas fight. And that's what he did every time. And I'm proud being his son. You know, I'm so glad to hear you say that, dude. I'm glad that you're not fighting that. I'm glad that you're embracing that. Absolutely. Because, man, the, dude, the battles he had with Oscar de La Jolla and the bleep that he talked about, Oscar was so off the chain and so unbelievable. It was just, it was incredible. Listen, your story is really, really unique. To be where you are right now is even more amazing, amazing when you consider you were behind bars for a time. How long were you in jail?
