Summary

One of the best things about Davis Cup has always been decisive doubles matches so you can imagine our excitement when the first two quarter-finals - Italy vs Croatia and Germany vs Great Britain - both came down to the doubles.

Catherine, David and Matt recap both ties in full, including Borna Gojo’s heroics, Marin Cilic’s nerves, Mektic and Pavic’s reliability, and lots of missed opportunities for Great Britain.

There’s also discussion about Serbia making it through the Groups (just!) and Kazakhstan’s impressive Davis Cup record over the last decade.

So it's Tuesday evening and two of our four quarterfinals of the 2021 Davis Cup are done

0:27.1

and dusted the non-moderate-based portion of proceedings are done and dusted. The road to Madrid

0:35.8

as it is written on the court, so it has been written on the court since you're in and inesbruck,

0:41.4

has been travelled and it has been travelled in its entirety by Croatia who went through over

0:48.8

Italy last night into in and most recently just minutes ago by Germany who went through in very

0:55.8

dramatic fashion over Great Britain in inesbruck will be covering both of those ties but

1:03.2

we will also be covering the bidder business from Sunday night that we were unable to bring you

1:09.8

because it finished so darn tooting late in the evening and that was that Russia ended up beating

1:17.6

Spain in the doubles. Felicia and Lopez David was not able to do a Queen's 2019.

1:25.8

No, he sort of did it until we pulled the plug. I think you must have sensed that we just ducked out

1:33.7

and deserted him and actually an Andro Rubo, I think maybe took a little bit of a fence at some of the

1:42.3

the kind of desertion of his abilities as well and decided to play out of his mind for about half

1:49.6

an hour. But yeah, it was an incredible day, what Lopez did, but Russia showed how much strength

1:58.9

they have all the way through that team and if one of them doesn't get you the others will in the end

2:05.4

and that's why their favourites, isn't it? Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Rubo live was thrashing at the

2:10.7

tennis ball in that doubles. I mean, usually doubles is about finesse and tactics. No, I don't think

2:17.4

they were doing any symbols. It was just thrash at the ball as hard as you can from Rubelev.

2:22.7

And it worked. Russia won that doubles and that meant that they topped group A and set up a

2:28.4

quarter final against Sweden. That'll be our next quarter final on Thursday. And it also meant

2:34.2

that Spain were eliminated from the competition with Serbia qualifying as one of the best two runners
