This episode is for Eliana Green, who asked me to tell the story of the amazing David Livingston.

Hi, Aliana, this one's for you.

You know, when I was creating our last episode about Brother Andrew, God's Bible

smuggler, I was reminded of Eliana's request for the story of David Livingston

because both of these men were such servants of God.

Both devoted their lives to bringing the Gospel of Christ to people who needed it.

David Livingston is known in history as one of the greatest explorers and

missionaries of the Victorian period. By the way, the Victorian period is when Queen Victoria was Queen of the British Empire

and it covers from about 1837 through 1901. So it's quite a long span there. You know I think it would be good

for you guys to have your globe or your world map with you so you can see where this story takes place. Go ahead and

pause me and grab that if you can. Our story is going to start in Scotland and

then move to England and then down to Africa. So go ahead and find these three locations on your

globe or map. Scotland is actually part of the same landmass as England.

It's just up in that northern part of it. And Africa is a huge

continent to the south of Europe. So David Livingston was born in 1813 and a small cotton mill town in Scotland.

The town which was owned by the mill was poor and life was hard for David as he was growing up. Young David

joined the other children and working in the factory at the age of 10 years old.
