Hi, Celie and Manoa, this one's for you.

Back in episode 132, I told you the story of Jim and Elizabeth Elliott, who are missionaries to

unreached people groups in Ecuador. That story told of how Jim and four other men were killed trying to bring the gospel to those

unreached people.

It also told about Elizabeth, Jim's wife, who returned to pick up the work where Jim had left off when he died.

And God used her in incredible ways to reach the people who had killed her husband.

Well, today's episode is about another incredible missionary.

After the close of World War II, the world was facing a new challenge,

a conflict between the ideas of communism and democracy.

I mentioned in episode 133 that there was a highly guarded border between the communist countries and the free countries of Europe.

Well that border was called the Iron Curtain.

It was guarded not only to keep freedom out of the communist countries, but to keep the

citizens of those countries locked inside because they were not allowed to leave without permission and most of the time

they weren't allowed to leave at all. Everything about life inside those communist countries was controlled by the government.

The government decided where people would live and what kind of jobs they would have and even how many children they were allowed to have.

Everything was about pleasing the government.
