0:11.5	I'm Patrick Miller. And I'm Keith Simon. Right now we're working through the story of David's life found in First and Second Samuel.
0:18.0	So we're excited because today we're starting a new series on the life of David and first and second
0:24.9	Samuel. So let's just start here. Why should people be excited to learn about
0:29.0	David? My wife's taking these classes from Covenant Seminary in St. Louis so she had the opportunity to go to
0:34.9	Israel with some professors and other students a few months ago and one of the cool things she told me
0:40.6	concerned this one archaeological dig that people were working on,
0:44.0	going through all the layers of civilization trying to find archaeological
0:47.8	evidence or how these civilizations were put together.
0:51.4	And you've got to understand that for a long time
0:53.8	critical scholars, kind of unbelieving scholars
0:56.7	have said that David was not a real person.
0:59.1	And to be frank, there wasn't a lot of archaeological evidence, pretty much none that supported him as being
1:05.2	real. But they're getting ready to close this one site down and one of the last things that
1:09.4	guys does is he turns over one more rock and underneath that rock he finds an inscription that says
1:15.8	House of David and you can imagine that everything changed then they weren't closing
1:20.4	anything down but digging further.
1:22.6	And since that time, there has been all kinds of historical
1:25.8	and archaeological evidence to show that David was a real person,
1:30.5	that what we read in the Bible actually happened in history.
1:35.4	And so it kind of helps to get some historical context of what was happening in the life of
1:40.2	David.
