| 1:10.3 | I first encountered your work back in 1994 when your book Dead Right came out. |
| 1:16.4 | And as I recall, it was a pretty big deal in Republican circles because in it you argued that the conservative movement had lost its way. |
| 1:25.1 | I'm wondering, how did you come to that conclusion? |
| 1:30.8 | The book was a look back at the Reagan years, and I look forward at the Republican Congress that was about to take power. |
| 1:37.1 | And the argument of the book was that Reagan had achieved a great deal, but on his, especially |
| 1:43.4 | foreign policy, but his central domestic agenda was not working, that Republicans had not been able to get control of the growth of the state. |
| 1:53.2 | That was the thing Reagan promised Republicans hadn't been able to do it. |
| 1:57.2 | And in 1994, I observed and predicted that Republicans were going to respond to this in one of three main ways. |
