People bought into wanting a better lives for their families, wanting to live in a community of people where all things were shared, because they run every single part of your life.

Schooling, housing, clothing, finances. There's no part of your life that really belongs to you.

Glory Vow is very Amish adjacent and interestingly enough was founded by my

grandfather. He had multiple counts of assault and charges against him. We didn't know this. We knew he'd

spent time in jail but the propaganda was he was persecuted for his faith and what he believed in. I grew up thinking that men were

above me and that I had to submit my will to them watching babies beat black and blue,

like babies, young people who were not fitting into Gloria Vail, the rebellious, they would be taken into

these meetings that were hours upon hours of psychological torture to these teenagers who were

trying to find their way in the world.

But I'm a kid growing up in this environment.

I didn't even know what was quite wrong because I'm taught that these things are right

and good and my critical

thinking that started to kind of drop in and I was like I don't think I don't think this is right

mine is the only voice what have I been doing lay down my autonomy after that it got very dark very quickly.
