Today my guest is Daryl Pinckney.

He's the author of a new novel called Black Deutschland.

It's published by Farras Strauss-And Giroux. I've wanted to meet

Daryl Pinckney for a very long time. He is a brilliant critic. He appears

frequently in the pages of the New York Review of Books. I read a book of his

some years ago called Out There Mavericks of Black Literature,

and I learned a lot that I hadn't even begun to know because you were writing about people

who people don't know. And I think that in a lot of your work, the first novel High Cotton, the new novel, Black

Deutschland, you're introducing your readers to realms in which they're likely to be unfamiliar.

You're taking them on an expatriate experience.
