We're calling this a comfy couch convo.

0:13.8

See?

0:14.1

It's normally uncomfortable conversations, but this is a comfy couch convo.

0:19.7

The way it's going to work is that every two weeks you will get a fully

0:24.6

fledged gargantuan bells and whistles, uncomfortable conversation, an interview between me and a

0:32.3

luminary of intellectual life, and every other week you'll get a nice, a casual little nibble, just a

0:40.6

nom-nom-nom, a little amuse-bush like this episode, a tantalizing taster of a conversation on a

0:47.1

comfy couch with a dear friend of mine about some chatty topic of interest.

0:51.7

This week, to crack the metaphorical champagne bottle on the metaphorical boat of this

0:57.2

non-metaphorical inaugural comfy couch episode, our guest is none other than Australia's

1:03.2

second most beloved television host, the host of The Voice.

1:07.7

And before that, what were you hosting before the voice, Darren?

1:10.3

I've hosted many shows, Josh. What were the big ones? Minute to Win it. Minute to Win it. The Voice. BBC ones, the magicians. The magicians. The magicians? The TV's, Minute to Winners. I only say Darren McMullen is the man's name. If you're Australian, you know him. If you're American, you may also know him. But I say second most beloved host because Oshar... I think they were being fair to me there. I mean, I would be four or five, maybe. I will, I'm... Thank you. I'm... Thank you. I'm... Thank you. Who's the they there? It's the me. I'm telling you that you're the second most beloved. And if you consider that a promotion, then you're welcome. Thank you. I consider it potentially a demotion, but Oshar has already been on the show and this show. And I called him Australia's Most Beloved television hosts. He's a lot older than me, isn't it? He, well, let's not malign the man. I just mean I've got plenty of years to get there. You still got years? But he hosts Australian Idol and also the Bachelor. Yes. And also the masked singer. The Subshoots of the Bachelor. The Bachelorette. Bachelor in Paradise. Right. Bachelor goes rogue. Yes. Behind the Bachelorette. So do you think he's sufficiently older than you that you're going to make up that distance? I don't think so. Oh, God, it's it. Yeah. Because he can't have more than 10 years on you. We all have different paths, don't we? We do. We do have different paths. But look, you're here, and there's the voice, and then there's also a comfy couch convo on uncomfortable conversations.

2:35.1

Yeah.

2:35.5

Which is also a highlight of your career.

2:37.3

You might want to look elsewhere than this IKEA Scandinavian style furniture you've got for the comfy couch conversations.

2:43.9

You would think I need a more comfortable couch.

2:45.9

It needs to be a significantly more comfortable couch.

2:48.4

An upgrade is what you're suggesting.

2:50.4

Today's topic of conversation on our comfy couch convo will not actually be the

2:54.0

comfortableness of the IKEA couch on which we're sitting.
