Summary

This is a pretty special episode for me this week. Today's guest is Danny Dreyer, and his book "ChiRunning" is really the first book that made me question my relationship with running, and then snowballed into rethinking the way I ate as well. I don't usually encourage or recommend many of the books that come my way, but this is one that I seriously love and think a lot of people could benefit from reading.

It's been a great week here, and after some exciting conversations, the one thing I want to ask of you this week is FEEDBACK! So I need you to let us know: What is it we are doing right now that's working? What do you LOVE about the show and FatBurningMan.com? But even more importantly, what do you think we can improve on? Feel free to get in touch in any way you feel comfortable, on FacebookTwitter, or the best way is always to just reply to one of my emails. We want to hear from you!

Alright, on to this week's show with Danny where we talk about:

  • What it’s like to run without your legs.
  • Why training for high-performance can make you perform poorly
  • How to run an ultra-marathon without dying.

So I'm really excited about this episode of the show because it's with someone who wrote the book that led me to change my relationship with running, which ultimately led me to question the way that I was eating and the way that I was living.

0:30.1

His name is Danny Dreyer and he wrote Chi Running as well as Chi Walking and a number of other bestselling books.

But this is one that really resonated

0:38.7

with me and it got me from basically being able to run a certain amount of miles at a certain

0:46.4

speed and then getting constantly hurt, whether it was IT band or shin splints or whatever,

0:50.7

and changed that to being able to run pretty much as long as I wanted to with a meditative

0:56.3

focus of the running as opposed to a performance oriented mindset that actually was slowing me down

1:02.7

I was able to use it as a way to really get in touch with with my body and I encourage a lot of

1:09.2

my listeners and people who we coach to read this book

1:13.1

and check it out. So I don't normally go out of limb to recommend books, but this is one that

1:18.3

I absolutely recommend, especially if you love running. It's called Chi Running. It's Danny Dreyer.

1:24.2

Even if you can't grab it, I'm under no obligation or incentive to mention that

1:29.8

it's a great book, but it really is. But even if you can't get it, this show, we go over a lot of

1:34.1

the techniques of how you can become a better runner if you already are one or how you can integrate

1:40.1

this natural pattern of movement into your own body. So great show. A couple of

1:45.0

announcements before we get to it. Really cool week, there was a guy, Ahmed, one of the listeners

1:50.5

to this show who tweeted at me and he's just like, hey, I'm coming to Austin. If you want to grab

1:55.4

coffee or have me buy you lunch or whatever, let me know. And so I tweeted back and I'm like,

2:00.4

sure, yeah, let's grab some coffee. And so I tuned back and I'm like, sure, yeah,

2:01.2

let's grab some coffee. And so I sat down with him and we had a wonderful conversation before he
