I'm joined in the studio by my fellow banterer, John Horn of the Los Angeles Times. Hello, John.

Hello, Kim. As we've talked about on the show, it's now confirmed, changing of the guard.

The tonight show now becomes Jimmy Fallon's.

Jay Leno will be out following the Winter Olympics.

I think they'll try to launch Jimmy Fallon during the Olympics.

You know, it's one of those inevitable things.

It almost turned into a debacle. We've seen

late night transition debacles before. We saw the big battle between Letterman and David Letterman

and Jay Leno for The Tonight Show when Johnny Carson retired. We saw it again with Conan O'Brien.

And it started to get ugly this time, too. And oddly enough, this is one of the few things on NBC's schedule that's even working, as we've talked about a lot, had serious problems in primetime.

But Steve Burke, the NBC Universal Chief Executive, said, quote, we are purposefully making this change when Jay is number one, just as Jay replaced Johnny Carson when he was number one, end quote.
