being publicly projected on December 28, 1896 until today,

cinema has been in a constant state of evolution.

Innovators have constantly added to the art form

from telling a narrative story to evolving a three-act structure

to completely altering the tools of cinema.

The French magician, Georges Malier,

created cinematic special effects with his imaginative shorts

like 1902's The Trip to the Moon.

Color film became mainstream in the 1930s

at first used only on the most expensive studio productions,

but it wasn't long before it became the norm.

Synchronous sound changed everything with 1927s, the jazz singer.
