And this is the Effortless English show, the show that teaches you to speak English powerfully. Now last week I told a story about a trip to Nepal and telling that story

brought up some memories about my very first trip abroad,

meaning my very first trip outside of America, outside of the United States.

Now this was many years ago back when I was,

I believe I was 27 years old.

And I really wanted to travel.

I was excited to see the world. And because I had never been to

another country, I wanted to go someplace super different, very very different

than the United States.

So I didn't want to go to Europe too similar.

And so I decided to go to India.

And during the summer, I got my ticket, I flew to India and arrived in Bombay, which it seems to have been renamed Mumbai now.

I'm not sure which one to call it I'll call it Bombay since that's

what it was called when I went there and I stayed in this part of Bombay that was

way on the outside of the city. Not in the middle, not where tourists stay.

No foreigner stayed in the area where I was.

So I arrived, went to my hotel, and basically went to bed,

because it was this long 23 hour horrible flight.
