Summary

The Lakers are in a relatively quiet place right now, but the rest of the Western Conference is not. We've discussed the craziness in Dallas, with changes in the front office and on the sidelines and how uncertain things feel in the moment. Nobody could top them, right? This weekend, the Portland TrailBlazers said "Hold my locally brewed artisanal craft beer." The imminent hiring of Chauncey Billups, itself controversial among some fans because of allegations (settled out of court) of sexual assault leveled against Billups as a rookie in 1997, was connected to Blazers star Damian Lillard, who endorsed Billups on the record in June. That led to a beef between Lillard and Blazers fans, and Chris Haynes of Yahoo! reporting that frustration over the hiring process and fallout from it could be a factor in Lillard finally pushing his way out of Portland. So how did this happen? How did Lillard not learn the lesson LeBron James taught NBA stars. How does the process that has Lillard at odds with some segment of Portland fans (and perhaps elevating his frustration with the team, overall) reflect the downside of player empowerment, for players? Finally, Frank Vogel still doesn't have a contract extension, and some, even inside the organization according to reports, are wondering why. This is not a good thing for the Lakers. HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky SEGMENT 1: Lillard is beefing with Blazers fans. How we got here, and how Lillard should have learned more from LeBron. SEGMENT 2: Ignoring the inevitability of Lillard being traded to the Lakers - let the memes fly! - was the process of bringing Billups to Portland better than the one that landed Kidd in Dallas? Is there a material difference in their histories? SEGMENT 3: Kidd might be poaching members of Vogel's staff, according to reports. That's made easier because Vogel still doesn't have a contract extension, which would provide more security to his assistants. So what's the hold up? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! So some interesting reports this weekend, Andy, about Jason Kidd and the process that he is going through in Dallas to fill out his staff and whether or not he'll actually poach more members of Frank Vogel's staff.

0:58.0

We talked about Friday, the idea of Vogel needing to replace Jason Kidd.

1:02.0

He might end up needing to replace more than that.

1:05.0

If the Lakers don't get going on this Frank Vogel extension, which raises other questions, which we'll get to over the course of maybe the show certainly this week.

1:14.0

But Andy, we've talked a lot about how like Dallas has been all crazy.

1:19.0

It's insane and Dallas.

1:22.0

This weekend, the Portland Trailblazers did their best to say sort of hold my locally brewed artisanal craft beer.

1:31.0

Because man, it got nutty up there this weekend with the the impending higher, I guess, of Chauncey Billips. That's the start of it all.

1:40.0

Yeah, I was going to say as it turns out just because it for a lot of people, I think myself included and if you believe Damien Lillard, Damien Lillard himself, Chauncey Billips was involved in a sexual assault allegation in 1997 when he was with the Boston Celtics and ended up being as a rookie.

2:03.0

As a rookie, it ended up being settled out of court and Chauncey Billips's career has since then gone on without any type of impediment.

2:11.0

Whether you're talking about winning the championship, whether you're with Detroit in 2004, whether you're talking about the different organizations that he's been part of a front office or on a coaching staff.

2:22.0

Seemingly without this resurfacing as an issue, but before getting officially hired by the blazers and that announcement is expected to come either today or Tuesday of this week with a press conference, that incident has come up again as a point of discussion and specifically a lot of fans on Twitter seemed to be going at Damien Lillard directly about this.

2:48.0

That he would be seemingly okay with a coach with that incident in his past.

2:56.0

The reason they think he's okay with it is because he said in June on the record to the athletic that he likes Jason Kidd who he went out on Twitter.

3:07.0

This is the thing that people remember was him going out on Twitter and basically kind of lobbying for Jason Kidd then turns down that job and then ends up in Dallas as we've seen, but also the other half of that quote was Chauncey.
