And today I am chatting with Mary Berry, who is one of my heroines in life.

She was a mentor to me from 30 years ago, at least, and I'm incredibly fond and devoted to Mary,

who, as you will all know, is in her early 90s, and she's the most exceptional person,

and she has just written a gardening book. So we couldn't, or I couldn't, not have her on the podcast.

It's called Mary Berry, my gardening life. And as Mary said to me this morning, she's only ever

written one gardening book, and it's this, and she's not going to write another one. So as this is a gardening podcast, I had to invite Mary. Hello, Mary.

Good morning. Good morning. And when you said mental on cooking, not on gardening, I might say.

Well, on cooking and on kind of life lessons. And we were actually just talking Mary and I about how to

behave. Mary, Mary has lots of tips on how to behave in a open-hearted, generous but caring way.

And certainly with me, she has taught me many, many good things about how to run courses,

how to be influenced by people but not become people. I mean, lots and lots and lots of things

and how to always credit somebody who's taught you and mentored you. And Mary has definitely

lots of recipes. Mary, I still cook that

amazing, the meringue, the ice cream and coffee pudding that I think I had with you first about

32 years ago. Anyway, Mary, tell me why you wrote the book. I was asked to write the book by Darling Kindersley, and it really is from the beginning when I was small.
